About On Board Ministry

The name, On Board Ministry, was chosen to represent 3 boat scenes from Scripture in which Jesus reveals TRUTH about the Kingdom, challenges His followers to increase their FAITH, and calls the faithful to MINISTRY.

On one occasion, Jesus rowed out from the shore of the Sea of Galilee in order to teach the multitude (Matt. 13:2). It is our desire to invite people on board biblical truth to receive the things pertaining to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3), to teach faithful men who will be able to teach others also (2 Tim. 2:2), and that we all may glory in the revelation of Jesus Christ (1 Pet. 1:7).

At another time, to strengthen the faith of the Disciples, Jesus invited them on an excursion on the Sea of Galilee. He told them, "Let us cross over to the other side" (Mark 4:35). A storm soon arose and beat at the boat filling it. The consternation of the Disciples increased when they found Jesus asleep in the stern. He calmed the storm and scolded them for their lack of faith, since they had forgotten His promise of reaching the other shore. Faith increases when we realize we are on board with our Savior who controls the storms. Without the test of the storm, we take the safety of the boat for granted.

The last boat scene occurs when some of the Apostles had become discouraged over the crucifixion and had returned to their fishing vessels. After an unsuccessful night of fishing, Jesus makes a post-resurrection appearance to the Disciples and tells them to cast the net on the right side of the boat where they hauled in a huge catch (John 21:3-6). Jesus uses the scene in John 21 as a reminder of His earlier commissioning of them to Launch out into the deep (Lk. 5:1-11) that their catch would be men instead of fish (Lk. 5:10). Jesus was calling them on board the boat of ministry.

Our Lord beckons us into the boat in which we are armed with TRUTH, challenged in FAITH, and called to the gospel MINISTRY, compelled by the promise He made; "I am with you always" (Matt. 28:20).

IMG 9833 After eleven years of a successful pastorate, the Lord gave Alexia and me a new direction in ministry toward missions. We began mission work in 1986 and then launched OBM in 1999. We began concentrating on the training of pastors in a variety of countries in 2000. For the time being, we are concentrating on Kenya and the surrounding countries to initiate training pastors and leaders in theology and godly living.
